Chuck Close

I remember meandering into the Blaffer Gallery, which neighbored the building I studied in regularly, and discovering Chuck Close in person. Maybe it's the clever use of abstraction, maybe it's the scale of his paintings, maybe it's because it reminds me of that thing we did as kids, where we'd use a grid to copy reference images. I love his work and the uniqueness in all of his portraits. Have I considered making a portrait of myself like this using AI? No comment.
